EverGreen Party: Plan for sustainable finances
MEDIA RELEASE - APRIL 19, 2012 - FOR RELEASE APRIL 19
The EverGreen Party has three priorities for financial stability:
Fair taxation
Alberta’s flat tax rate benefits those with high incomes at the expense of the middle income citizens and the poor. Wealth is concentrating in the hands of fewer and fewer individuals.
EverGreen Party – A plan for a sustainable economy
MEDIA RELEASE - APRIL 18, 2012 - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The EverGreens understand that only a diverse, locally owned economy can be a sustainable economy. As long as our economy is dependent chiefly on one industry, which is non-renewable and largely foreign owned, we will always be at risk.
EverGreen Party: A plan for transition to renewable energy
MEDIA RELEASE - APRIL 18, 2012 - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
A responsible strategy for transition to non-polluting, renewable energy sources is essential for the long term health of our environment.
EverGreen Party supports life-long learning
MEDIA RELEASE – APRIL 17, 2012 - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Our first priority would be to provide all our children with the best possible start in life.
In order of priority we would:
1. Provide adequate funding for our public elementary schools to ensure that classes are small enough for all children to get attention to their individual needs.
2. Identify children with learning disabilities as soon as possible and provide prompt remedial help.
3. Provide lunch programs and other medical or social assistance wherever needed.
As funding permits we would:
4. Work to strengthen secondary school education by building smaller schools, lowering class size and engaging parents to actively participate in their children’s education.
5. Encourage a curriculum that is focussed on basic skills and also recognizes the importance of ecological awareness and civic responsibility.
For post-secondary education we would:
6. Work to stabilize fees for all students, while providing more scholarships for the most able students and students entering university faculties or technology programs for which there is a high provincial demand for graduates.
7. Encourage alternative education programs such as distance learning, adult learning, part time courses and portability of credits between institutions.
8. Review the student loan system to ensure that the process benefits both students and the province.
Education is an investment in the future and all children should have an equal share in the future:
9. We would gradually remove all subsidies from Private Schools.
